Though Toyota’s luxury-laden Lexus brand has been seeing hot sales since its arrival almost 20 years back, but it seems that the world’s #1 automaker is not satisfied with its performance yet. Now the brand has decided to capitalize the success of its parent company’s well known Prius and now they are going to offer their own hybrid The HS 250h.
In the world of electricity and gasoline combination, this new HS 250h is the fifth incursion.
The HS 250h’s uniqueness is quite noticeable in this brand and it seems to stand out in the crowed, as it is the only compact luxury hybrid available in the market these days. It is almost of the same size as of Toyota Corolla and a bit larger than Honda Insight as the Prius. These other vehicles are also categorized as hybrid, but they hardly have anything which make them approaching of a luxury car.
As far as design and styling is concerned, its exterior design appears like a nice combination of many different impressive designs that have been drawn for various sources and some of them are from outside the company. It has a strong look with its tri-bar grille that are quite similar to what we have seen in the Ford Fusion. There are two pointedly accented headlamps that give an impressive line to the whole line.
The HS gets power from Lexus well known four-cylinder hybrid/gas system for gas it features an Atkinson-cycle 2.4-liter that offers 147-hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor is capable to produce 140-hp, but it doesn’t make A+B to get C. In hybrids, the computation of power doesn’t work this way, but as Lexus propeller heads go on, the Hybrid Drive System of Lexus can crank out 187-hp.
It gets 35 mpg on city roads and 34mpg on the highways with a combine average of 33miles per gallon. It seems somewhat lack in colors in front of the Insight and the Prius, but any other luxury seems quite inferior in front of a real compact luxury sedan in the markets of North America that also include BMW 335d diesel that rates 23mpg in the city and 33mpg on the highways.
Just like other Lexus hybrids from Toyota, the HS 250h utilizes two electric motors. The engine gets started with the Motor Generator 1 and it also serves as a transmission ratio control and generator. The front wheels are operated by the Motor Generator 2 and it helps to regenerate energy in braking.
There are many different modes of operation in the HS. There is an information gauge in the binnacle which shows the efficiency and guides the drivers for many different driving modes that they can select.
Wheels get their power with a continuous electronic variable transmission that’s make is quite an efficient cruiser on highways. The driver gets a well modulated and well managed ride in the exchange of their input.
According to Lexus claim, it gets 0-60 in just 8.4 seconds, and aside from its quiet interior, it is quite silent at outside as well and you have to add some sort of noise for safety purpose to keep you telling that the vehicle is still running.
It features the largest trunk in the Lexus hybrid line and also houses impressive repackaged battery systems with innovative suspension design and it has the cargo capacity of placing nearly four golf bags.
