In these recession-stricken days, just like many other autos, the van industry also seems to zeal and zest, but still vehicles like GMC Savanna, the Chevy Express, Ford E-Series and Dodge Sprinter are considered quite effective trade tools in the US.
But now there is a tool which is quite different from the above stated trade machines, and this beast is none other than the Ford Transit Connect that is a bit lower than the Sprinter-like Transit in various parts of Europe. This front wheel drive Connect has a bit lighter courier for duty as well as for delivery service. In this segment of the industry almost everything has been included even vehicles like Citroen 2CVs as well as Fiat Pandas.
But the only vehicle which can be reckoned as an equivalent of the vehicle is the Chevrolet HHR van, but it appears more like a futile hauler with its just 62.7 cubic foot cargo area.
Well, there is no direct competitor, and it seems that Ford is looking to create some sibling rivalry and looking forward to lose some sales of its well known E-Series for the coming Transit Connect. E-Series was a really inspiring thing during 1992, but the Transit Connect featured some cutting-edge technologies when it was introduced in Europe in 2001.
The Transit Connect is almost of the same size as the Volkswagen Jetta that has a tall front, but its styling has been driven from the Ford’s circa 2000. It displays a bit of Mondeo or Fiesta’s swoopy pizzazz, but despite this display, it seems to connect someglamorous vehicle standards with its 180.7-inchecs measurement nearly 56” shorter than the huge E-Series.
When it comes to interior, it seems to have all that you can see in most of Ford European vehicles. You can easily slide into its firm and comfortable captain seats, but they wouldn’t sit you up the same way as in the E-Series. However, passenger will find enough leg room. To offer some gadgetry, there is Ford’s well known Work Solutions system that was first introduced in their F-Series pickups. Though the system is quite pricy, it nicely supplements a cell phone that allows users not only to share documents as well as browse the web the way they want. You can also upgrade this system with the Crew Chief status, which allows fleet operators to track different vehicles anywhere from their home and office.
It’s available in two trim models including XL and XLT that both feature a 2.0-liter Duratec engine that is capable to produce 136hp, and 128lb-ft of torque.
