The previous version can’t be called something really stimulating, but now it has been replaced with a better and stylishly elegant follow-up. Well, the Equinox indicates that GM has tuned itself with the present and aptly replying with its fuel economy to all queries from Congress.
The Equinox houses the new version of GM’s ever-present 2.4-liter Ecotec powerhouse. The styling is same as we have been seen for the past few years, but this time it has been formed as direct injected which can produce 182-hp and 172 lb-ft of torque when it gets 22-mpg city and 32-mpg highway front-wheel-drive configuration. According to EPA estimation, it has 20mpg city and 29mpg highway in the AWD version. According to Chevrolet, it’s expecting over 600-mile highway range on gas.
Well, this 32mpg figure for highways is only 1mpg more than the Escape Hybrid from Ford, 7mpg ahead than Highlander Hybrid from Toyota and the most impressive is that Honda Accord (four-cylinder) is just 1mpg inferior to it.
When it comes to style, the new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox gets a new identity with its newly designed split grille. This five-place crossover nicely creased side stamping of one piece and makes a real bold statement in C-pillar channels.
The interior has been appointed nicely in contrasting colors as well as in monotone, but a pod-style has been followed in both ways. There are many who might have seen this kind of pod-styling in the Malibu. It gets support with tachometer and speedometer, and contrasting sliver seems quite impressive in its outlined temperature and fuel gauges. To house the audio controls and the navi, there is a vertical stack that provides an impressive overhang which dramatically gets down on the stare given on the other screens.
To provide sufficient room, the layout has been impressively optimized, and no matter there is six or seven foot passengers in its rear, they will find enough room to stretch and they don’t have to touch their needs on the back of the passenger or the driver seats. There are stitched leather seats while some other versions come up with fabric surface, but it is better if you go for the leather option.
When it comes to performance, there are some things which are quite similar to entry-level Malibu especially the six-speed automatic and four-banger. You also have the option of the direct injection 3.0-liter DOHC V6 that produces 264-hp and 22 lb-ft torque. With FWD configuration, there is a Hydra Matic six-speed that seems quite impressive to bring good figures for mileage. The Equinox seems to get impressive amounts of power with the V6 and it can be a lot better package if you have a CUV shopping list in the option of all wheel drive. Though this option has been made available, GM is expecting that most of the buyers will prefer a 2.4-liter package that has front wheel drive option.
