Just like many others, you would also be thinking so that you have met them before, well we are talking about X1 that will make you recall just another BMW; the same vehicle has also been shown as BMW X1 during the last year at Paris auto show with their typical XI concept moniker. Now the prototypes of the vehicles are being tested at Mallorca, a Spanish island. Some details of the car have begun to emerge before its official launch that is expected in the later part of this summer, and it’s going to be the fourth SAV size after X6, X5, and X3.
The worldwide economic slowdown has completely changed the market scene, and now the older X3 seems to have a really difficult time in the presence of vehicles like Mercedes-Benz and the Audi Q5. While the X5 and X6 are becoming the victim of serious criticism because of their bad fuel economy.
Now BMW has decided to introduce a new lighter and smaller BMW for SUV lovers who are somewhat socially minded. The vehicle is based on rear-wheel-drive platform that has also been shared with the 1 and 3 series and it is nearly 600lbs lighter in weight than the available X3.
When it comes to its exterior measurements, you wouldn’t find them different from those that can be seen in the X3, but you will find it nearly 5” shorter in its length and 2” narrower in its width. It is being expected that the next-gen X3 is going to better accommodate X1 in this range. However, this time the X1 has been given a sportier look and it’s mainly because of its low profile. The vehicle also seems quite promising for better acceleration.
When it comes to the engine choices of the X1, they have been restricted only for market consideration and without any limitations for platform. In the European markets, it’s going to use xDrive23d and xDrive20d variations that are capable of 175 hp and 201hp.
The performance of the vehicle would be the same that you can expect from a passenger, but this time with impressive fuel economy particularly for its diesel versions BMW is also considering adding a new rear wheel drive version that will get more than 47mpg cycles fuel economy.
For the European markets the starting price for the X1 would be nearly about €30,000, which is almost €5000 to the X3 that has been equipped quite comparably. The models that haven’t been disguised are going to be displayed at the Frankfurt auto show that is going to start this September. According to BMW’s promise, X1 will also be treading the US roads quite soon.
